I have resubmitted the irs forms for our non profit status. They did not want to give us a 501c3 status because we help businesses as well as individuals. They did not think that helping people and businesses advance their situation and employment qualified for 501c3.
They said we needed to apply for a 501c6 (trade association). It is still a non profit corp. Donations to us would not be tax deductable. So we did that. I guess they are afraid someone may actually better themselves through our programs.
This status will cause us to have to find other means to fund our programs. If you can help us, please do. 09-19-2011
I attended the Economic Alliance March meeting . The next one is on Wed April 27 They are every 4th Wednesday of the month. There are many good things happening in the county.
As I was heading out the door to go to the meeting the IRS called. They dont like our (invention Works) request for a 501c3 because we are involved in helping inventors and business. Go figure. They asked us to amend the application to be a 501c6 ( Trade association). I have to bring this up at the next board meeting to decide to argue it or change it.
I picked up a new printer-scanner copier today for the Invention Works. We gave mine a real workout for the classes last week
Check out the Manufactures expo. I attended the one in Bellevue last week (April 13th) I wish I could have went both days. I would have liked to have had time to attended the seminars that were presented. Maybe next time.
I made many great contacts for my own project while I was there. This week I talked to several businesses that had booths there. They said it was a great success for them. I recommend attending these in your area if you can.
Maggie Olson sent me some of their flyers. I have included a copies of thier flyers for upcoming Expo's. Any business should consider attending. Steve 04-20-2011
Registration at AmCon show at Bellevue Wa
Many contract manufatures and designers had boths at the Expo.
The Invention Works sponsored two classes the weekend of Friday March 18th and Saturday 19th. 2011. We will have more classes in the future.
A lot of thanks to everyone that attended these programs. Their participation makes them possible. We intend on bringing more classes to Okanogan County.
I want to thank Scott Goodman, Hanna Kinzle, Sande' Mathisen, and Roy Wilson for all their help putting these two programs on. Without their help it would not have happened. It was a success, we even put a couple bucks in the groups account for future activities.
Thank you Steve Kreider
The Invention Works Hosted a 8 hr Electrical class for electricians, Electrical trainies, and pump installers. The program was a success. Everyone liked having this close to home. It is very expencive to travel to seattle or spokane to attend these required classes. We will be having other related classes.
"The Invention Works" sponsored a CPR class. Theresa Remsberg did an outstanding job instructing the class. We even had hands on training with the AED difibrillators. This is good to know for anyone.
On Sat march 19th 2011 The Invention Works hosted a CEU class for Wa State Electricians and Trainees We held the event at the Twisp Works facility, in the conference room.We served a lunch at the class. The class was taught by Van from Pelco CEU. He did a great job.
Participants want more. Having this class brought required coarse much closer to electricians in Okanogan county, and surrounding areas.
The class qualified for 8hr CEU credits. This class also satisfies 8 hrs credit for trainees.

I attended several meetings Monday June 28th. 2 of them were with the Twisp PDA.
I attended the board meeting with Bill Boosman the Twisp Mayor and Kristi Laguzza Boosman. Bill introduced Kristi and her proposed Program. Kristi gave details on An economic Development program put together by WSU economic development and members Of Port Townsend that might be good to duplicate here. We talked in support of the Twisp PDA taking on a roll to put a similar program together at the Twisp PDA site.
I attended the Twisp PDA public meeting formally presenting the Twisp PDA Master plan.
1st there was another site tour. Then we learned about what they formally proposed. Various participants in the committees and myself spoke about what they experienced during the process. The master plan can be seen at www.twisppda.org

I purchased the suite 3D Max v20 and Contourcam. Not knowing anything about cam programs I am haveing some difficulty. Per Hæstrup [phaestrup@magic.dk] with contourcam is guiding me through the process. My spare time has been destroyed this month. I will let you know how it goes. I understand it is a very powerful combination of software.

We have been busy. David Stone, Sande' Mathisen, and I attended the design Charrette Dec 2009. It was an all day affair. The object was to come up with many facility designs. There were many ideas that came from this project. One included underground parking, great idea to conserve land. The participants were divided into 5 teams. Each to prepare a site plan including the program mission. Then these were presented for comment. There were about 65-70 people in attendance.
Stephen Kreider, David Stone and Sande' Mathisen attended Design Twisp PDA Charette
invent-manufacture members also participated in the Twisp PDA Design Charette
Maggie Coon talks of the success of the Twisp PDA
It has been busy. Dave Stone has been very active attending meetings. Dave and I have been attending the meetings being held at Twisp PDA. We have been giving some input of programs we feel will help the community with education , business and product development facilities.
Dave and I attended the IRIS Success Summit Wednesday. www.irisncw.org It was an all day afffair. It was well prepared. Everyone was asked to submit ideas to include. Dave and I will be participating all we can with IRIS as well as The Twisp PDA. Jennifer Korfiatis from the NCWEDD was there also. We are still trying to find the money to Join the NCWEDD.
We were invited by Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray to attend the Fed grant seminar in Ellensburg Fri. Dave Stone was out of town and Scott Goodman was not able to attend he was quite ill last week. Jesse Thomson and I did make it. It was important to attend because we are looking for grant opportunities. Now is really the time to apply because there is job related and educational grant money out there.
We need $ and help in filing our 501c3 irs application. I have made it about 1/2 way through the application. When it is done we need to have someone to go over it and check it. It might have to be a lawyer. We hope not ($) If you have experiance in 501c3 or know someone who might help please let us know. We have had one substantial gift, we need some more to get this done. Do you have any fund raiser ideas?

Good morning
Great news! We have our Non Profit Corp formed. We are now almost official. I filed the papers last week for the Non Profit Corp. I received an email from the Secretary of State with our UBI number, Our official name is INVENTION WORKS. I am to get the certificate in the mail this week. I filed for our MASTER BUSINESS LICENSE last week also. I should get it in a week to 10 days. Then we need to file for aEIN number. We are legal for Wa State.
Next projects are : filing for our Tax Exemption 501c from the IRS. This is the long process. I have a person that has offered to make this happen. Just awesome. It is expensive.
I am going to include a INVENTION WORKS section on my website.

HAVE SOME FUN ATTEND A TRADE CONVENTION
I attended The Washington State Groundwater Association Convention last week in Tukwilla. It was a great show.
There were a lot of innovative products displayed by dealers and wholesalers. Everything from Windmill generators to pumps and controls. There are many new items in the water business. There are many more to be invented. Looking at the displays can sure get imagination going.
Displays by United Pipe and supply, Forge, PQ Products, Preferred pump, Franklin electric, the list goes on. These businesses are great supporters of state waterwell conventions.
If you attend a few different shows you will get many ideas on how to develop or improve products. Keep your eyes open, it is amazing.
There are many things holding back inventors product ideas. Money is the big one. Facilities and equipment to work with is another big one. Lack of particular knowledge can be another. We are working hard on creating a facility with equipment to help prototype, and produce peoples ideas. We hope to help from concept to market. This kind of facility can create new businesses, and jobs. This would ba a regional production facility. What do you think?
Here is a copy of a letter I sent to The Twisp PDA, Twisp Wa
To members of the Twisp PDA
Good morning
I will introduce myself. I am Steve Kreider, a long time resident and business owner in the Methow Valley. I started my well drilling and excavating business in 1986. I have developed several products , one which I have patented, waiting for final. Others are prototyped, in the revision stages of drawings, then applications will be made (money permitting)
Here is a little history and mission of the Invent-manufacture group.
I was trying to develop and patent a product since about 2001? I had very little or no luck finding help in NC Washington. I kept working on my product. I found a patent agent in San Francisco Ca that helped me with my patent. ( a lot less expensive than a patent lawyer) I still have this uphill climb trying to get it made, financed, marketed etc. I have spent a lot of time traveling out of the area to get services. I still need some money, and facility to produce the product in. I am trying to get the equipment together to make the product. I have some of the equipment needed.
During this adventure I met a lot of very talented people in Okanogan that had different products in various stages of development. Most had given up due to lack of resources. (knowledge, finances, manufacturing, facilities etc). Often it was just too much for one person to accomplish. It is such a shame it is so hard to get things done in US. There should be some organized help in US and this area to get things manufactured. Just think of the economic impact that would have.
I started looking for a club in Central Washington that might shed some light on getting things done. I attempted to contact 2 clubs that apparently were no longer active . I could not get any return calls. I have contacted a couple groups in the past that were to be involved in bringing business to Okanogan County. These same groups said have it made in china, and No one in this county is capable of making that. What a poor attitude. I want my work to be produced by my neighbor.
I have talked to Worksource and found that there were people actively trying to find work in there field of experience and interest. Manufacturing, machining, marketing etc. There is little related work in the county. These people end up working outside their fields and their passions. Their talents are forgotten.
I decided to create a group or club to try to help people get their ideas into production. I built a website (www.invent-manufacture.com) and started to create this group in April of 2009. I got in touch with S.C.O.R.E. This is a group of executives that have a goal of helping businesses. They came out from Wenatchee a couple times and helped. Score has volunteers from various business interest ( accounting, manufacturing, transportation, finance, engineering, etc. )
The Inventor-manufacture group is still very young, and its design is changing. But the idea remains to help people get their product developed with the help of other people of similar interest, with different knowledge of the process . Sharing knowledge. We are getting energetic people into the group. Things are getting creative, I think the group will go great. Just think of the employment opportunities if things could be developed and manufactured in Okanogan county area. Including the Methow valley.
There are a few items manufactured here now. Bicycles , Yurts, furniture, there used to be a couple people in the valley with machine shops in their garages making parts for Boeing. There are farms manufacturing Jams, salsa, etc. I am sure there are other things I am not aware of. Manufacturing can be unobtrusive, small buildings, not even known by most people. Businesses can be spun off, year round employment, good working conditions, schooling, scholarship programs, training at some of these facilities is possible. Related businesses can be spawned like marketing, packaging, printing, transportation, maintenance, etc. It just seems like a win win to me.
We have been discussing locating a building that we can create a prototype shop in. Have our meetings in. We would like to acquire various machines. Mills, lathes, welders, table saws, shapers, work benches, casting furnaces, computers with grafix programs, cad and cad/cam programs, publishing programs, word processors , lableing equip etc, and items not yet known. These things to allow development of products that people could not otherwise afford to prototype.
We discussed the possibility of have training programs on this equipment. Training that is not available in Okanogan county, probably not available in NC Washington. This training could be in junction with Wenatchee Valley College, Or the school district.
We would like to see the products developed be produced. We would like to go one step farther in the near future and create a manufacturing facility. A facility that would co operatively manufacture, market and distribute products developed in the County and Methow Valley. I think the opportunities that could spin from this are immense.
We would like to talk to your group to see if we could find shop space at the Forest service grounds for our group. We would like to participate in the Efforts of the Twisp PDA to bring some economic stability to the community.
If you would like to listen to us I would like to schedule and appointment and talk to your board about the possibilities.
Our group has been meeting last Thursdays of the Month at the Country Town Motel in Carlton at 6 pm. We will be adding directors meetings mid month soon.
Thank You
Steve Kreider
Its that time again. We are having a meeting Thurday July 30 2009. This should be very interesting meeting. Come with some ideas about how we can help inventors and manufactures. Think about a co-op shop for developement and prototype work.
Meeting will be at the same place. Country Town Motel, Hwy 153 in Carlton Wa 98814. My email is stevekreider@invent-manufacture.com My cell phone is 509 670 4561 for information on the group
We will be having chicken, corn on the cob, and potato salad available for a donation for those who need food. Might throw in a hotdog or ?
See you there
Good morning
We had a great meeting last night Thursday 25th 2009. For those who could not be at the meeting, Jennifer Allen Tate , Eartheandskystudios. www.earthandskystudios.com/ , led a discussion about Marketing. Jennifer was great. She gave us a lot of ideas and information about marketing. Most of the questions were focused on internet exposure. Jennifer brought a lot of energy to the group. She said she will continue to participate with our group. Thank you for participating in our group Jennifer.
Joyce Campbell represented Methow Valley News www.methowvalleynews.com/ . She is going to write a article about the group. They are going to give us some exposure. Joyce was extreemly supportive of our efforts. Joice and her husband have gone through much of the same things our members are. Developing products, marketing etc. Thank you Joyce, and Methow Vally News for your support.
We had several new members particapate in the meeting. It was great to see you there. Two have products patented and in the process.
There was a little discussion about the idea of a Co-op shop facility?
We have a non disclosure agreement. everyone agreed and signed it. We will use it at all meetings. If it needs tweeked a little we can sure work on it.
Thanks
Steve
The meeting May 24th 2009 was very informative. We discussed patenting. Dean Johnson and Gary Nelson did a presentation on Patent searches. Steve Kreider did a presentation on aspects of a patent application. We had several new faces. Engineer, Instructor, inventors, local businessmen, we all enjoyed participating. We have an offer of help machining parts from Bruce. Again we had a very good group of people. The cooperative nature of everyone will allow this to grow. Thank you everyone who has attended.
The meeting Thrusday April 16th 2009 Went great. Dinner was MMMM Good. Click on The NEWS button on left for more information. Do you have meeting topic suggestions? We are going to try to meet once a month. I will post next meeting date. Call 509 670 4561 or email SteveKreider@invent-manufacture.com Let us know if you wish to attend next meeting.
I recieved an email invitation to attend a inventors showcase. I thought It would be good to show it to our readers. I have not recieved communication from them yet. I will keep trying to get more information. It seems to be associated with a inventor group in Oregon MIPO. I have emailed them a couple times, hope to build a raport with their group.
If you know of other active groups or activities ( conventions, classes, club meetings, etc related to inventions, product developement) let us know. SteveKreider@invent-manufacture.com May 16 2009

Inventors will need to provide the following ASAP!!!
Inventor Name:

Invention Name:
Inventors Showcase:
Saturday, May 30 from 10:00 am- 5:00 pm at the World Trade Center
located in downtown Portland (121 SW Salmon, Portland 97204).
!!!They will have to show up early to set up and stay late to pack up!!!
Dean suggested bringing items people are working on. I think this is a great idea. Be careful that your item is protected, (provisional patent) The part might be a portion of your product but in public domain, or it is an item you would not care if someone continued development.
Consider doing a joint venture with someone to bring your invention to reality. Cost and time can be shared. More than one person can be on a patent etc.
The inventor/manufacture group had a great meeting at Tims Cafe. People came from Tonasket, Wenatchee, Twisp, Methow etc.
Gary Nelson, and Dean Johnson , representative from SCORE attended. Great people. They are very knowledgeable. There backgrounds include manufacturing and engineering, machining, marketing. They let us know what SCORE does. They talked about what they can do to assist us and other people in forming and expanding business. We will have them attending again.
Dinner was great. Tim did prime rib in a mushroom whisky sauce, ham with a honey sauce, red potatoes, mashed potatoes, rice, vegi's, home made apple sauce, fresh cheese cake with strawberries, fresh baked chocolate cake, and Rolls. The meal alone was worth the night.
We are going to plan another meeting in about a month. I will post it when time is determined. Plan to attend the next one. Open to all.
There are so many talented, knowledgeable people in the area. Many have ideas of products to make. Where do you start? I am trying to form a group of people with product ideas at various stages of development to help each other through the maze and get local products produced. I have found it difficult to work through the maize to get one of my products close to production. Anyone interested in developing a idea for a product they have, anyone with knowledge in manufacturing, patenting, product development, finance, business management, machining etc if you have some knowledge and time you can share with others please join us.
Tims Cafe is located at the Country Town Motel in Carlton Washington. He serves great food.
I am looking for people and businesses that would be willing to submit short articles about inventing , product developement, business management, manufacturing, and related topics. Email me SteveKreider@invent-manufacture.com
